FOOD POST

After work yesterday, I dyed my hair myself to a darker shade and got dressed for Justin and Shizuka's birthday dinner. We went to this Nonya place for dinner. Here's me and my camwhoring session of my new hairdo and also my outfit.

We went to Mum's Place for dinner.
Photobucket
How can we have dinner without WINE?
Photobucket
Cake!!! It's Lavender flavour. It's very different and supposedly good but I am not that into it.

I stuck around only for dinner until BM came to pick me up to accompany him for his late dinner. Since I owed him a present for his birthday a week ago, I decided to treat him to a meal. We went to Giza and landed at Fullhouse.
Photobucket
He ordered a Chicken Chop dish and it looked amazing. He was clueless to the bean-looking stuff so I took a bite on it and couldn't figure out what it was myself. Weird...
Photobucket
Then, I started camwhoring again...
Photobucket
And I camwhored even MORE after I had permission to use his watch as a prop for about 5 minutes... HAHA!!!
Photobucket
That's what I'm talking about. GSHOCK!!!

Penang trip with my buddies

So, it's the time again for me and my buddies to go out for a day trip! More to FOOD trip. This time, it's PENANG! We've been planning this trip since College days, with another few more of our gang. However, we had to be turned down time after time because of either someone being sick or not having transportation there. Although today, it's just me, Endo, Kar Hing and Colby, we know we were going to have a great time. Kar Hing was in charge of taking some shots as I drove my way to Penang since he was sitting at the passenger seat up front.

Photobucket
First, we headed straight to George Town, to find ourselves some food! I have done some research the night before and found out that certain shops are not opened til noon. So the ideal place to go for our breakfast (as we arrived at 11am) was at a market!!!

We arrived Batu Lanchang Market at approximately 11.30am. First, we saw only certain shops open. When we found our Char Koay Teow stall, we saw the noodles placed neatly there, but with nobody attending it. It also seemed closed. We were wondering for a second there...:
1. Why would anyone leave the noodles there unattended?
2. Was is left overnight?
We proceeded to the stall next door which sells drinks to ask the Aunty if the CKT is closed for the day. She just simply sent us away making us assume that it was not going to open today. We were too hungry, so I thought of trying the Pasembur a few stalls away. Motormouth recommended this stall at his blog after all so it couldn't be that bad.

We all did not have any idea to what this was about. When it came, it looks like a kind of Rojak to us. It tasted not bad though. It was a little spicy to me though. Overall, good. Not something you could eat everyday.
Photobucket
Another lady from another drinks stall took our order and had the tendency to inform us that their market only opens at noon. So different than our Ipoh markets! Knowing that, we finished our drinks and headed back to the CKT stall. It was finally open!!!
Photobucket
The noodle was GOOD! Look at Endo. HAHA!!!
Photobucket

This CKT was fried with duck eggs! I have no idea how to differentiate duck eggs and chicken eggs though. At least I get to eat something different AGAIN.
Photobucket
Here are the pictures of the buddies which were just hooked on to their gadgets because in this market itself, is FREE WIFI!!! WOW! How high-tech could it be??

Remember when I mentioned about the lady in the next drinks stall just now that shooed us away? That bloody biatch asked us for our order but obviously we were already filled with water in our bellies by that time so we turned her down. She then gave us a sour look and was mumbling and sort of scolding us for "taking up" her space for not being to get customers. HELLO!!!! We are here not for YOU! We are here for the CKT and based on the way you shooed us off from the time we arrived til then, you expect us to still buy from you? Talk about customer services...
Photobucket
Our next location was Khoon Hiang Cafe, which was where Ah Leng's famous Char Koay Teow stall was located...
Photobucket
However, as you can see in the photo below, it was closed. DAMN! I wanted to try it so bad as it was said that there were special ingredients available too! Such as Lai Liu Har, etc...
Photobucket
On the road, I guess Kar Hing got bored and he started pictures of everything weird we saw. Look at this board. It's stated coffee right? But what's it got to do with Goldfishes? Either the coffee was made of Goldfish shit or just that it's too good for the goldfish to resist it... L.A.M.E
Photobucket
This is a super cool wall art. It wasn't eactly painted on the art but more like a 3D art made out of wires or some sort! COOL!
Photobucket
Next stop, Joo Hooi Cafe, where the famous island's best Laksa is located at. It's also walking distance to a famous Cendol shop but unfortunately, it was closed.

From the back view, you can see the Char Koay Teow stall again...

Photobucket

The Char Koay Teow here was not bad. Seriously, all of them are still better than Ipoh's as their texture of noodles are very different.

We were here for Laksa and as unlucky as we could be, it was ALSO CLOSED! ARGHHH!!! The aunty in the shop tells us that this Laksa only closes once in two weeks on a Wednesday. HOW UNLUCKY CAN WE BE???!?!?!?!?! DANG!!!!
Photobucket
The Cendol in this shop though is nothing special. Maybe it's because I've eaten the one at Jonker88 in Melaka. Therefore nothing is beatable!!!
Photobucket
We just wouldn't give up until we have had some Laksa, therefore we walked to the nearby shop which also serves some decent laksa, based on a Penang blogger's website. As we walked on the overhead pedestrian bridge, we came by these weird mirrors being on every corner. What's it for I wonder? To prevent people from bumping into each other???
Photobucket
Thanks to my GPS, we took a wrong turn and took a long way to the shop. Instead, we got to see some really old ancient heritages. Look at how pretty these shops look!
Photobucket

Photobucket

Finally we arrived the shop on foot, Kek Seng.
Photobucket

The lady who took our drinks order gave us a tip, to eat the Durian Ice-cream. It was good no doubt!
Photobucket

Photobucket

The laksa was just decent, something which you could even get in Ipoh. Disappointed...
Photobucket

Here's Colby doing his Coke standing stunt... lol
Photobucket

The place was located opposite ACS school. It's such a small place...
Photobucket

We then had nothing much better to do, so we drove around the corner to 1st Avenue, the new shopping mall. We had no idea to what to expect so we just assumed it was something like Queensbay mall?
Photobucket
The first thing we were shocked of was the escalators. There were 3 or 4 of them going all the way up to the top! The malls are right at the bottom and the entertainment zone is way up. Car Parks are loacted right in between...
Photobucket
What catches your eye most? Mine would be... CHATIME of course!!!
Photobucket

Photobucket

Yeah, as you presumed, I had one. Couldn't resist. lol.
Photobucket

There was a really big Heart with wings located right at the entrance of the mall. It was for Valentines which was yesterday. It's so sweet as the front was all roses and the back was notes for their Valentines...
Photobucket

Photobucket

As the place wasn't bigger than we expected. We had to leave after a while as there was nothing much for us to see... We headed on to Straits Quay, the place where Snoopy's Charlie Brown Cafe was located.

We ordered some snacks and I thought it would be fun to order the cappuccino which has the face of Charlie as stated on the menu. True enough, it was! With his and his Chinese New Year hat!

The bill is extremely expensive and don't forget, the food is not that good. You have to self service order, the varieties are not that great and also you can see tons of complaints on Foursquare!

We took more pictures outside at the pathway to the toilet. A very long stretch of them.

Since I have never been to Hard Rock Hotel in Penang, I decided to bring the boys there, perhaps get myself a new top also from the Rock Shop with Penang on it. I have Singapore and Melaka and now to get Penang!!! Michael Jackson was at the entrance of Hard Rock Cafe. Cool...

We had dinner at Gurney Plaza's Dragon-I. It's been a while. I used to eat in this place every time with him. It no longer was a MUST GO for me but of course once in a while, Siu Loong Pao would be a mouth watering dish for me~!!!

After we were all done, it was already 9.30pm. We got out of town and drove our way back to Ipoh. I was already tired and yawning even at Gurney. All I could do was to buy some Red Bull and sweets to keep myself awake. My friends' lives are in my hands!!! ><

Thank God we arrived back in one piece safely. It was a tired, exhausting yet FUN and HAPPY trip with the buddies. Next trip, Melaka perhaps???!?!?!?
